Normal training Monday 30th January onwards.07/12/2011 - Newcastle takes Gold at Teesside Open NUSKC competed in the Teesside Open on the 4th December, a small local tournament in
Middlesborough and enjoyed its most successful competition of the year.
Perhaps most notable was senior male kata, with NUSKC fighters Jonny Knox, Josh Roberts and Owain Roberts taking first, second and third places respectively. Also in kata, Abi Chapman won her first gold medal for the university.
The kumite was equally impressive- Abi and Jonny finished second in their categories, with Owain winning his.
After the Christmas break NUSKC will have a break until spring, when a team will go to BUCS in Sheffield. With several promising begginers having double-graded, the squad can only get bigger and better.06/12/2011 - 14 pass Club Grading An impressive fourteen NUSKC students passed the first grading of the year under Sensei Holdsworth, including nine begginers. Kim Lang Ping Nam30/11/2011 - Competition Success for NUSKC The year has begun well for the squad, having been to two competitions so far and brought back medals in kata and kumite from each.
The first of the year was the KUGB Northern Regional Championship in on the 29th October in Sunderland, in which Sandy Tse won a silver in kata and Gregg Peers won bronze in kumite.
NUSKC also sent a team to the KUGB Student Championships, which took place in Chesterfield, with Sandy bringing back another silver medal in kata and Abigail Chapman winning Bronze in kumite.
The club will next compete at the Teesside open tournament on the 4th December and look forward to more success.28/06/2011 - Sunderland Karate Championship Despite the academic year being over, several members of the club took part in the annual Karate Championship at the University of Sunderland on 12th June, with Sandy Tse taking silver in Women's Kumite.
